Day One:
You will embark Mahalo II at 3pm for a 4pm departure from Derby. Once safely onboard, our skipper will conduct a briefing on the safety aspects and facilities aboard your vessel as well as showing you on the charts the area which will be covered on the safari. Donning a life jacket, you will take an exhilarating ride in the tender to Utopia through the raging waters of the Horizontal Waterfalls. Following our rides, we will travel out of Talbot Bay and into Yampi Sound where we anchor for the first night. The crew will assist and show you how to set up your tents and swags. Then it is time to relax and watch the sun set, enjoying a refreshing drink and some nibblies while the crew prepare you evening meal. Dinner is served aboard your vessel and following a delicious meal you can retire to your cabin.
Day Two:
After a great breakfast, we will head off to collect some delicious black lipped oysters. Enjoy them fresh off the rocks and we will also collect enough for a tasty entre of Oysters Kilpatrick for dinner. We then make our way to Crocodile Creek where you can swim under an exquisite waterfall. There is a small shelter here that was erected by the Koolan Island miners. It now houses an array of memorabilia left by people who have visited over a number of years. Following a healthy lunch of cold meat and salad aboard your vessel, we head off to one of our secret fishing spots to catch the fish of the day for our evening meal. The crew assist with the use of the fishing gear and help you to reel in the big ones. Having caught enough fish for dinner, we make our way back to Mahalo II for yet another beautiful sunset with drinks and nibblies followed by a delicious meal of fresh fish and oysters.
Day Three:
Today we head up to Silvergull Creek to visit Phil and Marion who have made their home here. A swim in their water tank is a must and a stroll around Marion's garden will reveal some beautiful tropical plants and awesome views. Marion and Phil also have a little shop selling hand- made jewellery and other souvenirs so you can pick up some souvenirs to take home. Leaving Silvergull, we make our way to another fishing spot for some more spectacular fishing. With enough fish for a great feed, we cruise to Hidden Island for a swim at Silica Beach with its brilliant white sand and crystal clear waters. Lunch is served and we cruise via Whirlpool Passage and into Strickland Bay where we will keep an eye out for schools of Tuna and hopefully land one or two to enjoy fresh sashimi for the evening's entre. Tonight we moore near Bower Bird Beach with its spectacular views of Strickland Bay. Another beautiful sunset drinks and nibblies followed by a meal of the freshest fish you can get will ensure a good night's sleep for all.
Day Four:
A short steam brings us to the Graveyards at the Eastern Side of Strickland Bay where many a pearler were buried from the 1880's after dying of such things as paralysis and Berri-Berri. Pristine mangrove forests can be found in the back waters of the Graveyards and we set our crab pots on the incoming tide. Taking turns to pull the pots is a lot of fun and while waiting, we can engage in some fishing for Mangrove jack, Fingermark Perch, Cod, Threadfin Salmon. There is also the chance to entice the elusive Barramundi out from a snag using some live bait or a lure. Once we have caught our catch of Mud Crabs, we cruise out of the Graveyards and back into Strickland Bay to visit some lonely graves dated 1889 on the Edeline Islands. These islands are made of a soft, grey rock called schist and there are some great rock formations to be photographed. We stop off at a beach for a swim before returning to Mahalo II to cook our "Muddies" and fresh fish for dinner.
Day five:
Today we enjoy our last breakfast aboard the vessel before making our way to Cone Bay. Depending on the tide, we may be able to have a snorkel in a lagoon in which the visibility and tidal currents are not a problem and offers an insight into the coral reef species that fringe most of the islands. Those not keen to snorkel can view the reef from the tender or go for a reef walk on the exposed reef. A short cruise across the bay brings us close to the island where Maxima Pearling operate from and have now diversified into Barramundi farming. We then visit a little freshwater stream locally known as XnX's, named after an old Hippie that lived there for many years. A guided walk up the hill reveals beautiful crystal clear swimming holes surrounded by a tropical rainforest thicket and the remains of XnX's hippy camp which he erected in the 70's. Lunch is enjoyed aboard as we begin our cruise to return to Derby. We make our way through a passage called Hell's Gate which brings us into Cascade Bay. We wind our way through the islands, into the Inland Sea and out into King Sound for a 2.5hr cruise to Derby, arriving mid-late afternoon. We disembark at the Derby Jetty approximately 2:30pm where transfers are waiting to return you to your accommodation in Derby or Broome.
