"Experience some of the most amazing sights of the Top End and discover its rich, indigenous culture on this unique voyage sailing the tropical waters of the Arafura Sea. Be transported back in time to the days of the early European settlers, and witness the natural, unspoilt beauty of this secluded wilderness. The vibrant and friendly indigenous locals will captivate you most though, as you are warmly welcomed into their communities to learn of their centuries old traditions, unchanged to this day".
Day 1
Board the Leeuwin II in Darwin - capital of the Northern Territory - an exciting, culturally diverse city perfectly positioned to play a pivotal role in the nation's ongoing expansion of the Australasian region.
Days 2 - 3
Bound for Goulburn Island, you will sail via the magnificent Cobourg Peninsula, which lies within Garig Gunak Barlu National Park. This is an area of immense diversity; white sandy beaches, wetlands and clear tropical waters.
See for yourself the incredible natural beauty of the Top End's marine and coastal environments, and the abundance of wildlife that inhabits them. Most prevalent are dolphins, sea turtles, crocodiles and the intriguing dugongs.
On arrival at Goulburn Island you will meet the artists and other local indigenous people of the Warruwi community. In the early 1900's, Reverend James Watson - who arrived on his bicycle from Adelaide! - saved the island from certain degradation by cattle graziers, and preserved it for its traditional inhabitants.
Days 4 - 5
Sail into Port Essington, in the heart of Garig Gunak Barlu National Park. Only 200 people per day are granted entry into the Park via a permit system, which guarantees an ethical and unfettered experience with the natural environment.
Meet the Park Rangers at Black Point Cultural Centre before sailing - in the wake of the early pioneers of the Top End - deeper into Port Essington to Victoria Settlement.
Wander amongst the preserved ruins of Victoria Settlement, where brave British colonials in the 1800's attempted - but failed - to eke out an existence. Here you will learn of their hardships, and experience first hand the remoteness and isolation they endured.
Day 6
Arrive back into Darwin, having sailed through the night. You will disembark with the certain knowledge that you have just truly experienced and explored the natural and cultural heritage of one of Australia's last true frontiers!
